GRASSMARKET
OLD TOWN. This area is historically renowned for its seedy history.
It was once the location of the city gallows. In 1736, this
was the spot in which Captain Porteous was lynched. Fortunately
today, visitors will not be able to witness hangings or lynchings.
Part of the city's past can be seen by the bits of the Flodden
Wall remaining from the 16th century and the Telfer's Wall from
the 17th century. This Area is possibly one of the most exciting
parts of Edinburgh for shopping and

shops, restaurants, coffee-houses and pubs, catering for most budgets
and preferences.
